Nothing gets written to disc until RetroArch is closed through its own menu, meaning that all save data is lost if you exit via the home button. Game save files get created immediately upon using the save function in-game, config files get saved upon (?-changing configs might not be a good idea because you can completely break it if you accidentally change the player 1 controller to none, for example-that's probably a separate bug. I have seen that exiting through RetroArch's menu does work properly, but home-button exits should be supported or at least there should be a notification or warning about this. On the PS Vita version of RetroArch, configuration changes and game saves are all lost when closing RetroArch through what I understand to be the usual method of closing an app on the Vita: pressing the home button and exiting the app.
